Absolutely loving reading this whilst I am sipping my piccolo alone in a seaside cafe and reading your sub stack! You have inspired me to take that solo overseas trip I have been afraid of doing alone. Thank you 🙌🏻

Katie the timing of this is insane — I’m literally forcing myself to stay in and have a solo night tonight, something I NEVER do and need to get better at according to my therapist (I agree with her though lol)

Oh I loved that newsletter so much Katie! 🥹 I’m an only child so I’m used to spending time alone, but I found that living alone (for 5 years) could be too much loneliness. Now that I live with my partner, I’m so psyched when I have time alone! I truly cherish it.

I also love time alone at the library because it’s quieter than a cafe and there’s a sort of reverence to personal space. I also love going to the park and walking around. Running is also a good one, because you’re going where you want and at your own pace, and it’s a good way to escape a crowded space, for instance when visiting friends and family. Swimming is in the same category, it is absolute bliss to have a lane by yourself. And since becoming a yoga teacher, I love spending time practicing yoga in my home office.

I've been meaning to write a post like this too since I'm spending a whole lot of time by myself for the first time in years! However, this was perfect so maybe I don't have to. Taking notes.

Love this! It’s a goal of mine to solo travel one day but I need to save up. My goal for the summer is to have more solo dates. Maybe I’ll aim for one a week!

I used to get really overwhelmed with what to do when I did actually have alone time (like a weekend with zero plans or obligations or roommates gone for days) but my therapist suggested making a list of the things I CAN do, rather than the things I have to do and it helped so much to make that alone time a bit more freeing and whimsical

As a serial solo traveler - short story books are great for low-commitment folks who are worried they can't finish a whole book on a trip.

I usually ask my friends where they are going for the holidays/summer (nice way to check in on them), and then if there is any shared destinations or interests, I'll try to overlap for a portion of it.

If I'm traveling in a group, I take over most of the planning but I schedule half days so that people can have the other half to do whatever they want/break off without any obligations. I use it as a way to take a break if i need to, or if i haven't traveled with someone before I can use it to gauge how flexible they are (ie people say they like to eat/can eat and then by stop 4 they are dying...). And if you're not used to solo traveling it's a great way to practice but you have someone to meet back up with at the end of the day.
