Sofie Pavitt ☠️
is a licensed esthetician, owner of Sofie Pavitt skincare studio and the founder of her eponymous product line, Sofie Pavitt Face. Originally from Wales, she’s lived in the US for 21 years and her first ever job was designing underwear for Abercrombie and Fitch. She currently lives in Brooklyn with her husband, two sons and french bulldog Cremy (brulee). Sofie and her products have been mentioned countless times on Plant Based, so it’s an honor to have the woman herself talk to us today. What is your fridge philosophy?
Snacks on snacks. I have two small boys and keeping them fed is a full time job. My husband and I are like, well what are we gonna eat?! I stand over the kitchen sink and eat their leftovers. I actually prefer snacks over meals. I love to eat, I'm constantly grazing on something.
Your fridge is always always always stocked with ____.
Our newest launch – Fridge to Face Blemish Defense Mist. I love this mist because it has that blemish defense in it from our postbiotic ferment. It contains B vitamins and a cooling agent so your skin feels refreshed and revived when you spray it on. It gives you this insane dewiness. I love it.
It’s also full with those crazy strawberry yogurt tubes for my kids. It's really chaotic! We have a house out of the city and we love to entertain in the summer so when we’re there, there's always lemons, olives, dips, and party food. And a bunch of beauty products line the doors. That fridge is a huge beast with a drinks drawer and a giant freezer full of gin, ice cream and lots and lots of ice pops for pool parties.
When you have kids, you always have these good intentions starting off – “My kids aren't going to eat anything processed and no sugar! I'm going to home cook everything for them!” Believe me when I tell you that you'll be feeding them mac and cheese and chicken nuggets. They'll also polish off a box of $50 sushi in under two minutes so that's that. They're like endless funnels they don't stop eating. You do your best!
Top 5 condiment picks, go.
Chili crisp
Brown sauce (HP obvs)
ketchup (red sauce)
Is zhoug considered a condiment? it is right? That.
I was obsessed with that Fly By Jing Mala spice seasoning. I put it on everything for 6 months until I couldn't look at it again. Delicious.
Fine, I’ll open it up to pantry too. Let’s hear your favorite snacks / pantry staples:
Trader Joe's Chili & Lime Flavored Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips
Kettle chips S&V. I'm a chips and dip fiend. Give me a gin martini with a twist and a bowl of salt and vinegar crisps and I'm set for the evening.
A meal that’s on heavy rotation these days:
I like to hyper fixate on something. For example, I was just laser beam focused on cottage cheese on toast until I was sick of the sight of it. I don’t know what the next thing will be yet.
I did Factor meals for the pure convenience for lunch in the office and after a few months I looked down at my literal microwave meal disguised as a health food and thought to myself — you need to do better. This cant go on.
I'm working on a daily salad. I'm in my forties so my personal trainer, my doctor, they all say focus on protein! But you know what, fiber is what makes your skin gorgeous. Fiber to flush out all the excessive hormones stored in your gut and stops you getting breakouts. So a nice big bean dip with a side of grilled fish and a side of greek Horta with lemon and olive juice is my dream meal. A trio of sides basically. Yum.
Let’s go a little deeper…
What’s the mantra you keep coming back to?
You know, someone once told me ‘if you hate everyone eating something, and if you think everyone hates you, go to sleep.’ It hasn’t failed me yet.
What products / practices are part of your regular mental wellness habits?
I like to sauna blanket a few times a week as well as my Shark LED mask. Making time for these rituals is a lot sometimes but definitely helps me feel like I'm taking care of myself.
I like to wake up early and go to bed early — I’m grumpy if I have a lot of evening engagements for work during the week.
I love to work — I tend to overdo it like crazy for days, then spend a whole day rotting in bed with my kids watching movies and eating popcorn ordering take out. I love being at home with my family.
I also have to work out — I'm like a dog that needs to run, I also have two small boys that need it so we are always out doing something.
And your physical?
I take scalding hot baths (everyday… I hate showering unless outside!) and I also drink tea almost straight out of the kettle — I like hot hot water inside and out. Is that bad? That feels great to me.
I love taking this boot camp in Williamsburg and working out with my personal trainer when I'm in New York doing heavy weights. When I'm working in LA I like doing yoga and pilates. It fits the scene. Silver Springs is great in Weho. I walk everywhere in NYC, you get built in cardio.
I obviously get a monthly facial at my studio and I also work in a derm office so I do all the treatments. I like CO2 laser once a year. I do my botox every 5 months and it not only makes me look more awake and rested, but it changes the texture of your skin and smooths it out. I’m going to Seoul next month — I want a skin boosting treatment and Ultherapy over there.
I take fish oil, Vit D, probiotics and I inject a peptide and NAD supplement too.
What do you think is the most underrated part of wellness?
Confidence is hot, being self assured in your physical body. I don’t see it a lot, to be honest, and it comes with age ironically enough.
I'm in my 40s now, I'm the most confident I've ever been because I could not give a fig. Youth is wasted on the young! I have so many incredibly gorgeous 20 something clients who are bent out of shape about this guy and that relationship — like what?!! You’re going to let that loser make you feel that way?
I never had anyone gassing me up in my 20s, when you’re most vulnerable and worry about the smallest things. I love to see confident girls in their twenties, it took me a long time to get there. I hope I can be that person now to make a young gorgeous girl understand how hot and smart they are.
And overrated?
Ten step routines. Trust me when I tell you all you’re going to achieve is peri-oral dermatitis. (Editor’s note: say that.)
You need a cleanser, a treatment, and a hydrator. (SPF in daytime too).
Picture this: you wake up one morning and feel like shit. What’s your next move:
The only time I really feel like shit is when I drink, so I'm going to go from a hangover lens here. I’m going to get the baby blue Gatorade, not the deep blue, the baby blue one. This is the healing one. I’m going to drink this whole bottle and then have a really big hot coffee with regular milk, not skim – the full fat.
After about 30 mins, have a big breakfast (I have to eat breakfast, I'll die otherwise) and if I have UK beans I'll have beans on toast, or eggs on toast. Toss back 2 Advil chaser followed by lunch a few hours later. A probiotic to feed all the gut microbes I killed with all the alcohol.
That’s a tried and true British hangover cure.
Give us your ride or die wellness products:
Well I’m biased but my Mandelic Clearing Serum will literally make your skin better. Regardless if you have acne or not. It's a low and slow daily exfoliator and it makes your skin smoother, brighter and clearer.
I also love our Omega Rich Moisturizer, it's so rich it feels like butter on the skin (but it wont break you out). It's a love letter to my dry, acne prone clients. I love Revive Peau Magnifique Serum (outrageously expensive, but I'm old now so I feel like this is something I can admit to using and loving it).
I love the Lilis Korean Resurfacing Serum and Peel
Fara Homidi Lip Pencil with just Vaseline smudged over the top
A fiber supplement can really help change your skin if you have PCOS or hormonal breakouts (I like good ol Metamucil sugar free).

One thing you do everyday that makes you the most YOU version of yourself:
Putting on my jewelry and a fragrance. I love fragrance — I never put it in my product line but I love scents.
I also love my job — I feel so lucky I get to do what I do every day and help clients get to their best skin and feel happy about themselves. What a treat to be trusted. Thank you all for trusting my skincare studio!
Whose taste inspires you?!
I worked for Tory Burch for a few years on her handbag team and she has exquisite taste.
Marci and Lori Hirschliefer are just… icons. The store, their style: next level.
Lady Miss Kier forever my hair muse.
I love watching people who live truly within a style and era in their look that's so cool and such a commitment. I'm fighting for my life wondering what to wear most days.
Can I say my kids? My 6-year-old’s style is so cool. He's really particular and loves his vibe with clothes. I like dressing either super femme in a skirt suit or like Chino Moreno from the Deftones. There’s no middle ground.
The biggest thank you to
